January update

Hello! One New Year Resolution I had was to update my blog more often (at least once per month). Here’s what happened to me in January:

I joined the YMCA in an effort to lose weight so I won’t have to take Diabetes medications. So far, I have lost 16 pounds since September.

I am planning on doing the Breast Cancer 3Day in August. Please let me know if you have anybody looking to donate money to cancer research!

I am also going to attempt the Race for the Cure 5K on Mother’s Day at the Mall of America. I am attempting to run the whole time. Tonight was my first 5K time – 48:18. My goal is to get it down to at least 38:00.

Quick update. :)

#43: 50 Questions to Free Your Mind.

These questions have no right or wrong answers.

Because sometimes asking the right questions is the answer.

#1. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?

#2. Which is worse, failing or never trying?
#3. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
#4. When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
#5. What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?
#6. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?

#7. Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?

#8. If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
#9. To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
#10. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
#11. You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire. They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. The criticism is distasteful and unjustified. What do you do?
#12. If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
#13. Would you break the law to save a loved one?
#14. Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity?
#15. What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
#16. How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy?
#17. What one thing have you not done that you really want to do? #18. What’s holding you back?
#19. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?
#20. If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?
#21. Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?
#22. Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?
#23. Why are you, you?
#24. Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend?
#25. Which is worse, when a good friend moves away, or losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you?
#26. What are you most grateful for?
#27. Would you rather lose all of your old memories, or never be able to make new ones?
#28. Is is possible to know the truth without challenging it first?
#29. Has your greatest fear ever come true?
#30. Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now?
#31. What is your happiest childhood memory? What makes it so special?
#32. At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive? If not now, then when?

#33. Decisions are being made right now. The question is: Are you making them for yourself, or are you letting others make them for you?
#34. If you haven’t achieved it yet, what do you have to lose?
#35. Have you ever been with someone, said nothing, and walked away feeling like you just had the best conversation ever?
#36. Why do religions that support love cause so many wars?
#37. Is it possible to know, without a doubt, what is good and what is evil?
#38. If you just won a million dollars, would you quit your job?
#39. Would you rather have less work to do, or more work you actually enjoy doing?

#42. If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?
#43. Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?
#44. What is the difference between being alive and truly living?
#45. When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what you know is right?

#48. When was the last time you noticed the sound of your own breathing?
#49. What do you love? Have any of your recent actions openly expressed this love?
#50. In 5 years from now, will you remember what you did yesterday? What about the day before that? Or the day before that?

Proud to work for The Salvation Army.

For those of you who don’t know, I work downtown at the Salvation Army social services office. Today and tomorrow several anonymous donors have given us a challenge – Raise up to 1.25 million dollars, and they will TRIPLE match every donation.

Read more about it here: Salvation Army’s Match Challenge 2009

This means for every dollar you put in a red Salvation Army kettle, the donors will give us $3 triple matching that donation. Every cent is important, so to anyone reading this (especially in Minnesota and North Dakota) please donate! Even if it’s 50 cents.

I had a gentleman come into our office this morning and handed over a cashier’s check for $1,000. He chose to be anonymous and said that he hopes we can help several people with his donation. Since today is a triple match day, The Salvation Army gets $4,000!!!! That will feed (3 meals) and shelter approximately 130 people for one night.

Thank you so much for those who have donated or plan to donate to The Salvation Army. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

New York, New York Here I come!

NYC Weather

I am visiting my cousin Nate in New York City this weekend, and I’m stoked! It looks like the weather is clearing up just for Saturday and Sunday so that I can go sightseeing! I take off from MSP at 2:25pm, and I should arrive at JFK at 6:25pm. Nate is meeting me at the airport, and then we’re going to take the subway to Brooklyn, where he lives.

I’m super excited about seeing Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty, and the Brooklyn Bridge and of course, going shopping. :)

I’ll be sure to post photos after my visit.

New furniture

I’m moving in late October into an apartment in Woodbury with a friend that I graduated college with….So I figured it’s a perfect time to purchase a bed…because mine is getting to be pretty crappy. Here’s what I purchased…and it cost me a pretty penny. Bed is from Slumberland, Armoire is from Ikea.

I know that they aren’t matching, but I really wanted the armoire…so I don’t mind.

Been a while..

I know it’s been awhile, and I haven’t updated. Here’s a good laugh:

chase education loans

They never tell you about this when you’re thinking about college. Boo!

On the other hand, this is for my chase auto loan for my Jeep. Notice the difference?

¿Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl)

Little girl, little girl
Why are you crying?
Inside your restless soul, your heart is dying.
Little one, little one
Your soul is purging
Of love and razor blades
Your blood is surging

Run away
From the river to the street
And find yourself with your face in the gutter
You’re a stray for the salvation army
There is no place like home
When you got no place to go

Little girl, little girl
Your life is calling
The charlatans and saints of your abandon
Little one, little one
The sky is falling
The lifeboat of deception is now sailing
In the wake all the way
No rhyme or reason
Your bloodshot eyes
Will show your heart of treason
Little girl, little girl
You dirty liar
You’re just a junkie
Preaching to the choir

Run away
From the river to the street
And find yourself with your face in the gutter
You’re a stray for the salvation army
There is no place like home
When you got no place to go

The traces of blood
Always follow you home
Like the mascara tears
From your getaway
You’re walking with blisters
And running with shears
So unholy
Sister of grace.

Run away
From the river to the street
And find yourself with your face in the gutter
You’re a stray for the salvation army
There is no place like home
When you got no place to go
