Coupon……crazy?

So I have talked to many of my family members, friends and co-workers who laugh at me because I’ve started “Couponing”.  No…not like the show on TLC… There is no way I could spend $2 on $1,000 worth of groceries…BUT, I have saved quite a bit of money in the past month. My secrets? I’ll share them with you :)

Coupon websites I use:

http://www.myfrugaladventures.com

-Blog about deals and coupons (Target & CVS, among others).  Also has a “couponing 101″ area. This is where I learned about CVS’ good deals (I’ll write about that a little later).

http://www.afullcup.com

-You have to register to view anything, but they have an awesome coupon database, and you can print many printable coupons right from the database. There are also many message boards, where people are trading coupons, or you can join a “coupon train” where you send envelopes of coupons to one person each week, and another person sends an envelope to you.

http://www.coupons.com

-You can print coupons off of here for products.

http://forthemommas.com/coupon-preview-2

This is where you can preview the coupons that will be in the Sunday papers.  This helps me determine how many papers to purchase.  Usually previews are up on Fridays.

Stores to shop at

Rainbow Foods

Rainbow is the only store in Minnesota that will double manufacturer coupons (That I know of, at least).  They double up to 5 coupons on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  The coupons can be a maximum of $1 in value.  If you have a coupon that says “Save $2 on 2 boxes of Hamburger Helper”, they will not double this coupon.  In order to have your coupons doubled, you must spend a minimum of $25 before tax and after coupons.

Sometimes Rainbow has “Double Double Daze” and they will double up to 10 manufacturer coupons.

CVS

CVS has really great deals in their weekly ad.  I never shopped there because everything seemed so expensive.  The key to shopping at CVS is their Extra Care card.  You can sign up at any CVS for free, and they have an Extra Care scanner where you scan your card and coupons print out.  Read more about CVS here: http://myfrugaladventures.com/drugstore-101/

Target

Target has printable store coupons: http://coupons.target.com Go all the way to the bottom of the page and click on ‘Coupons’. You will have to install a coupon program in order to print.

Target allows you to use 1 manufacturer coupon and 1 Target coupon for each item purchased. So, if you want to buy Sally Hansen nail polish:

$2.54 retail price

-$1 manufacturer coupon

-$1 Target coupon = $.54!

So I will be posting deals when I see them – let me know if you have any questions!

Funny?

So I share a mobile plan with my parents.  Here is our usage breakdown from last month…pretty funny that it seems as though I use my phone the least?

We all have the same phone – Samsung Vibrant 3G on Tmobile network.

Day 19

List all of the places you’ve lived at

I’ve done quite a bit of moving around the past 5 years…

East St. Paul (18 years)

Highland Park (St. Paul) 2 years

River Falls, WI (on and off several years with parents, especially during school breaks when dorms were closed)

Falcon Heights (1 year)

St. Paul (Battle Creek area) (1 year)

Woodbury (1 year)

North Minneapolis (currently 7 months).  I should be at my home for a long time now because I own it and my rent won’t go up.  That’s the reason why I moved so often – why should you have to pay $60 – $100 more per month for the same space? Psht. Forget that!

Day 18

Name a TV show you have become addicted to.

Can I name a few?

Glee! I’m not a giant fan of musicals, but I do like them.  Glee doesn’t just burst into song at random moments – it’s set up.  AND there are some pretty funny quotes from the shows.  Not to mention Jane Lynch.  She’s amazing.

Extreme Couponing  - Even though this show makes me really mad (who needs 57 bottles of mustard, or 60 bottles of hand soap??) It is addicting.  The majority of people keep all of these items to themselves – but I really wish that they donated to their local food shelf.

Happy Easter!

Day 17

What do you want to be when you get older?

Well, I am older…I’m 25! I feel old.  I would still like to be doing Social Work on an administrative level. Possibly getting my Master’s degree in Social Work and Business Administration.

I would also like to be a paid photographer.

Day 16

If the world were to end tomorrow, what would you do with your remaining time on Earth?

I would make sure to spend time with all of my family – even the ones who live out of state (NYC, Atlanta,  Sedona AZ)

I would charge a bunch of money on my credit cards and buy something that I would never buy (maybe a giant diamond or ruby ring).

But then again, I probably wouldn’t spend all of my money because who knows if the world would actually end?  I heard about these people that are not saving money because they think the world is going to end in 2012…the same thing happened with Y2K…people thought the world was going to end.  I don’t get it!

Day 14

5 Celebrity Crushes?  Hmm…Past or present? Both.

Mark Salling (Puck from Glee). I think it’s the mohawk. ;)

When I was in high school I had a celeb crush on Benji Madden from Good Charlotte.  He’s aged gracefully. :)

Joe Mauer is our “hometown hero”. He plays for the Minnesota Twins.

Johnny Depp. Enough said. Favorite movies include Public Enemies and Cry Baby.

Penn Badgley from Gossip Girl

I wouldn’t necessarily call these guys celeb crushes – I think most of them are gorgeous and would totally date them or a look-a-like. :)

Day 13

Three Confessions of your choice:

1. I am a really bad dieter. I lost a lot of weight last year, but after I had to cancel my gym membership because I bought a house and needed to save every penny, I gained it back.

2. I think I have a problem with shopping. Even though I know I don’t need anymore clothes/shoes/groceries, I still buy things.

3. I secretly wish I was in another professional field. Specifically the medical field.  Mostly just because of pay – I get paid dirt for being a Social Worker (even as a supervisor). Social Work is the lowest paying field that requires a 4 year degree…but is one of the most emotionally difficult jobs to have.

30 Day Challenge – Day 12

Post a picture of your desktop.

I will post my work desktop – since on my Mac I have just the generic pink/purple sparkly sky.

It’s the NYC skyline and view of the Brooklyn Bridge, at night time.  I didn’t photograph this – just took it off of a Google search.

I don’t like a lot of stuff on my desktop – I don’t understand how people have 30 documents on their desktop. Just put them in a folder! I use two drives that I have to store all of my documents, unless it’s something simple that I’m working on (like the 2 docs I have saved now – Spanish questionnaire and Arboretum article).
